Cabela’s to Host Third CDOT Traffic Study Meeting
for Proposed Wheat Ridge Development

DENVER - Cabela’s, one of the nation’s largest outdoor recreation retailers, will host an open house meeting on Wednesday, August 17, from 4-8 p.m. at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, 4005 Kipling Street, as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) system-wide traffic study for the specialty retailer’s proposed Wheat Ridge store.

The Interchange Feasibility Study administered by CDOT – sometimes referred to as the 1601 process or the system-wide traffic study – is taking an in-depth look at existing traffic issues and proposed improvements necessary to accommodate the Cabela’s store and other future growth in the area near Interstate 70 and State Highway 58.

This is the third public open house meeting associated with the I-70/32nd Avenue System Level Interchange Feasibility Study. During this meeting, traffic experts conducting the study will present new information about the short list of alternatives for improving traffic conditions in the area. This meeting is the next step in the study process that will conclude with a presentation before the Colorado Transportation Commission in September 2005.

This meeting will be a traditional open house format, with a brief presentation made every hour. It also will serve as a public scoping meeting for the project’s Environmental Assessment (EA). The EA will evaluate the environmental conditions associated with possible traffic improvements.

For years, the area near Interstate 70, State Highway 58 and 32nd Avenue has been plagued by traffic congestion and many in the region see this effort as an opportunity to address long-standing traffic woes.

Wednesday’s open house meeting is designed to encourage input from the community regarding proposed traffic improvement alternatives. Since the first 1601 community open house on March 23 of this year, 19 of the proposed 21 alternatives have been eliminated from further consideration based on technical criteria. At the August 17 meeting, residents will be asked to comment on the remaining two alternatives.

In addition to the various open houses and public meetings, interested residents can call Cabela’s information line – 303-376-8394 – to provide input or ask questions. A Web site with project and traffic information, as well as the ability to receive community comments and questions, is available at www.CabWheatRidge.com.
